Experience

Web Developer · Harborlight Digital

Feb 2022 - Present · Nashville, TN

  • Build and maintain 14 client sites in Next.js and TypeScript from a shared component library, shipping roughly 30 releases a month with zero rollback incidents in the past year.
  • Rebuilt the storefront for the agency's largest retail client: Largest Contentful Paint fell from 4.2s to 1.6s and checkout conversion rose 9% in the quarter after launch.
  • Ran the accessibility pass that brought every managed site to WCAG 2.1 AA - fixed 300+ issues found with axe and screen-reader testing, then added automated checks to CI so they stay fixed.
  • Cut average build-and-deploy time from 12 minutes to 4 by moving the pipeline to incremental builds and dependency caching.

Junior Web Developer · Bluegrass Web Studio

Jun 2019 - Jan 2022 · Nashville, TN

  • Built responsive WordPress and static sites for 25+ small-business clients, delivering every launch on schedule.

Why this resume works

The summary is a production claim, not a stack list

Fourteen sites, a storefront rebuild that more than halved load time, a maintained component library - the summary describes what exists in the world because this person works. The technologies appear, but as the tools behind the results rather than the point.

Performance is stated in the metric the field uses

Largest Contentful Paint from 4.2s to 1.6s speaks the vocabulary of Core Web Vitals, which tells a reviewer the writer measures the way the industry measures. The paired conversion lift translates it for the business reader on the same line.

Accessibility is an engineering project with an end state

Three hundred issues fixed and automated checks added to CI is a completed initiative with a maintenance plan. On most developer resumes accessibility is a word on the skills line; here it is a bullet with evidence.

The junior years show trajectory

The earlier role's starter-theme bullet - setup from two days to two hours - shows the systematizing instinct arriving early. Read together, the two roles describe a developer who keeps converting repeated work into tooling.

What to change before you send it

Lead with your most measured project

A storefront, a marketing site, an internal tool - choose the project where you can state a before and after. If you never measured, run Lighthouse or your analytics now and record the baseline before your next change ships.

Tune the skills groups to the posting's stack

Keep the three-group structure and reorder inside it: the posting's named framework belongs first on the frontend line. Remove anything you would not welcome an interview question about.

Adjust the scale claims honestly

Fourteen sites and thirty releases a month describe agency work. An in-house developer might instead state traffic, page count, or team size - any honest measure of surface area works, as long as one is present.

Keep the accessibility line at your real level

WCAG 2.1 AA is checkable in minutes with automated tools. If your work stopped at alt text and contrast fixes, write exactly that; a checkable overclaim is the fastest credibility loss available to a web developer.

Mistakes that sink a web developer resume

The skills section as a shopping list

Twenty frameworks in one line signal nothing about depth and invite the interview question you least want. List what you actually ship with, grouped so a human can scan it in seconds.

No live URLs anywhere

Web work is the rare field where the evidence is publicly reachable. A resume without a single site, repository, or portfolio link asks the reviewer to take shipped work on faith - most will not.

Bullets that stop at built and launched

Built and launched are the start of a sentence, not the end. What happened to speed, conversions, rankings, or maintenance burden afterwards is the part that separates your rebuild from anyone else's.

Hiding maintenance work

Most professional web development is upgrading, migrating, and fixing what exists, and hiring managers know it. A resume of only greenfield launches reads either junior or curated; a migration with numbers reads senior.

Words a web developer posting usually contains

Use the ones that are true of you, in the sentences where you describe the work - not as a list bolted to the end. Matching a job description's vocabulary helps a keyword filter find you; it is not what convinces the person who reads the resume afterwards.

Web Developer resume questions

Do web developers need a degree on the resume?

This example has one, but plenty of hired developers do not, and most teams treat shipped work as the stronger evidence. If you are self-taught, let production sites and a maintained repository carry the argument, and list your actual education without apology - the reviewer's real question is whether your sites hold up.

Should I put my portfolio or code profile on the resume?

Yes - in the contact block, as a plain URL. Expect it to be opened: the linked pages should load fast, work on mobile, and survive a Lighthouse run, because for a web developer the portfolio's own performance is a work sample.

Frontend, backend, or full-stack - which title should I use?

Mirror the title of the jobs you are applying for, provided your bullets back it. If your evidence is all frontend, claiming full-stack invites the database question that undoes an interview. Match the headline to what your strongest bullets prove and let the skills groups show the rest.

How do I show performance work if I never measured it?

Start measuring now: Lighthouse, Search Console, and your analytics give you baseline numbers in an afternoon, and your next improvement will have an honest before and after. For past work, describe the concrete change - image pipeline, caching, code splitting - without inventing a percentage for it.
